At the end of April, we participated in “Bowl for Kid’s Sake,” a fundraiser that supports Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri. Together, the two Castle Law teams raised $2,818.89 for the event, and took home an award for second highest individual fundraising amount. Needless to say, we were proud to represent Castle Law at such a well-organized and great event.
Big Brothers Big Sisters is actually the oldest, largest and one of the most effective youth mentoring organizations in the United States. They are the leader in providing one-on-one youth services and concentrate on developing relationships that positively affect the lives of young people. Believe it or not, St. Louis law firms have a long history of supporting BBBS. The national organization was started by an attorney and the St. Louis chapter was started by a local judge.
Why do we believe in Big Brothers Big Sisters? BBBS mentors children between 6 and 18 by setting them up with an adult who agrees to take on a relationship with a child by spending time with them, mentoring them, and treating them as if they are indeed a little brother or sister. Youth mentoring has been shown to have a drastic impact on children’s lives. Children who participate in such programs show:
--More confidence in their schoolwork performance
--Better ability to get along with their own families
--46% less likelihood of being involved with illegal drugs
--27% less likelihood to begin using alcohol
--52% less likelihood to skip school
As you can see, this is really a great cause and we were proud to be a part of it by donating our time and money to “Bowl for Kid’s Sake.”
This is truly only the beginning for the Castle Law Community Involvement Team. If you would like to find out how we are going to give back to the community this month and how you can get involved, contact Sam at stownzen@castlelaw.net.
